After moving the seat upstairs, I went back and did more work after the paint dried. I’m pretty much finished with the rest of it, I just need to fasten some pieces here and there, do the plywood thing, and attach it to the seat. THEN I’ll have to wait for the G920, which I’m still saving up for.
Uh oh, I smell a rant!
IF YOU’RE IN THE FASTENER BUSINESS, WHY BOTHER IF YOU’RE GONNA MAKE THEM CHEAP AS FUCK?!?!? I CAN’T EVEN USE THEM!!
Luckily I had some better ones lying around and used them.

Somebody went to HF!
Also, you should get a carbon fiber ricer wrap and wrap the wood stands.

Nooo Harbor Freight screws would have snapped in half if I exhaled.

Oh so you went to Lowes instead, got it.

I’ve been keeping up with your project (even though I’ve not commented much) and it’s looking very good! I’m not entirely sure how this part integrates to the seat portion you finished earlier, but it may have to do with the “plywood thing” you mentioned.
As a tip with the wood screws - make sure your driver bit is still good. They do wear out and will start to strip more and more. You may laugh at the 40-pack of phillips head bits you can get, but it’s really handy when you blow one apart or it gets so dull every screw that meets resistance ends up stripped (source: I worked construction for a couple years).
I have a seat/sim setup designed out, but I’m held back by not having a seat. I’ve looked through all the junkyards around here as well as near my dad’s and nowhere has anything even remotely sporty, at least that still has a windshield (i.e. the seats aren’t soggy).
I’m considering a cheap e-bay special knockoff racing seat, since it won’t be in a car it’s not like safety matters. It would at least get me to the point of being able to start building the frame.
I still have my wheel clamped to a folding table, which is very wobbly, the shifter has been pulled off so many times I’ve gone to paddle-only for now, and my office chair is awful for driving, especially trying to see my 15” laptop screen sitting behind the wheel. All that said, it’s still a blast to race in assetto corsa, so I can’t wait to get a real setup with monitors I can actually see and a seat which doesn’t kill my back in 20 minutes.
Also the steering wheel not trying to move around will be nice.

Thanks!
I got stupid lucky when I found the TL seat. All the other seats were soggy cloth or German (heavy and complicated).
The middle piece will be fastened to the seat base with a couple of brackets.
Also, I know what you’re talking about with the worn drivers, and that might be my case. However, I’ve had shitty fasteners round out because they were shitty.

I love Lowe’s, but it hurts me the see how shitty my local Lowe’s is compared to my local Home Depot.

It’s your fault. You didn’t pre-drill your holes. Also what MM54 said about bits.

I drilled pilot holes.

I recant my statement. I assumed because people usually don’t drill pilot holes. Those are some real shitty screws.
